Conference Plan:
Opening Session
Theme 1: The Parameters of Reform Within Islam
Theme 2: The Potential Participation of Islamist Group Within
Democratic Systems
Theme 3: Relationship Between U.S Foreign Policy and Nascent Democratic
Groups Within Muslim World
Closing Session
Press Conference/Interviews with Participants (To be arranged
with Local and Regional media)
Papers:
Each participant will prepare a 10-15 page paper covering one of
the themes. Each paper should be submitted to Ibn Khaldun Center
- to be published on its website immediately - by mid August 2004.
After the conference, papers will be potentially be published in
both English and Arabic for wider distribution.
Presentations:
The discussion of each theme will be opened by presentation by at
least two participants, followed by wider discussion among the participants.

Work shop Language :
Workshop language will be in Arabic and an Arabic English interpretation
will be provided.
Logistics:
Ibn Khaldun Center will organize the logistics of travel and hotel
for regional participants using its local travel agents. Brookings
will organize travel planning for U.S. participants.
